Movers who already know your close

The West End is the most rewarding part of Glasgow to live in and the most demanding to move in. Victorian and Edwardian tenements, three and four flights of communal stairs, tight half-landing turns and controlled parking on almost every street mean a two-bedroom flat here can take longer than a three-bedroom house elsewhere in the city.

We work these streets every week. That means we arrive knowing which closes are too narrow for a corner sofa, where the van can realistically sit on Byres Road at nine in the morning, and how long a fourth-floor carry actually takes — so the quote we give you is the price you pay.

Tenement Specialists

Stair turns, narrow closes and top-floor carries are our everyday work, not an exception.

Parking Sorted First

We advise on dispensations and bay suspensions before the day, not on the morning.

Fully Insured

Goods in transit and public liability cover, including communal stairwells.

Packing & Storage

Full or fragile-only packing, plus short-term storage when entry dates do not line up.

What makes a move here different

Stair turns decide what fits

The measurement that matters is not the stair width, it is the diagonal clearance at the half-landing. That is what defeats corner sofas, solid wardrobes and American-style fridges. We check the route before the day so nothing is discovered halfway down four flights.

Almost every street is controlled

Hillhead, Hyndland, Dowanhill and much of Partick sit inside controlled parking zones. A dispensation or bay suspension from Glasgow City Council needs arranging in advance, and a suspended bay at the close mouth can take an hour off the job.

The university drives the calendar

Glasgow University term dates push a huge spike of local moves into June and again into September. If your move lands in either window, book several weeks earlier than you otherwise would.

Moving in or out of a fourth-floor flat? Send us a photo of the stairwell and the close before you book. We will tell you exactly what will and will not fit, and crew the job properly rather than sending two movers to a four-mover address.

Frequently asked questions

Do you charge extra for a top-floor flat?

No. Floor level is built into the fixed quote rather than added as a surcharge on the day. Just tell us the floor when you enquire.

Will my sofa fit down the close?

We assess the route before the day. If an item genuinely will not turn, the options are dismantling, a window lift where safe and permitted, or arranging disposal and replacement — and you will know in advance, not on the morning.

Do I need a parking permit?

Very likely. Most West End streets are in a controlled parking zone, so a dispensation or bay suspension is needed. We will confirm what is required for your address and there is a council lead time, so ask early.

How long does a West End flat move take?

A one-bedroom on the second floor is usually a half day. A two-bedroom on the fourth is often a full day, largely because of the stairs.

Can you move a piano out of a tenement?

Yes, but it is a specialist job with different equipment and crew. Send a photo of the piano and the stairwell and we will quote it properly.
